March Events & Runs scheduled

You can now find all of the clubs events and runs on the calendar

Thursday training rides are not running this month or until the light is good enough – once it is we will restart them.

New Run!

Jamie Jackson has kindly stepped up and is trying to get a “Family” ride going on a Sunday along the railway paths. First trial set for March 5th 10am Stonebridge Inn – check the event for full details.

D-Day March 6th

Don’t forget the first Social of each month (Monday 6th March) is now the time to raise any concerns or ideas that we need jointly discuss and decide upon.

 

DCV Youth Coaching 2017 Launched – Tickets available now

Its with great pleasure that we have now released tickets for the first two coaching sessions of 2017. March 5th and 19th.

Details are –

YOUTH CYCLE COACHING – all ages up to 16.

LIMITED TO 20 PLACES – first come first served. – Tickets bought online guarantee a place. Payment on the day now accepted but only until we are full so cant guarantee a place.

Tickets available for purchase until midnight the day before. If less than 5 sold the event will not run and payments will be refunded. We will notify you by email if the event is cancelled.

Sessions will be run 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month until October 15th 2017

Key information

– Location – Sniperley Park and Ride
– Session Day and Time – Sundays 3.30pm to 4.30pm
– Age range – Coaching for Youth – up to 16yrs old.
– Equipment – any type of bike so long as its safe and you will need a helmet and appropriate clothing (Gloves highly recomended)

Format

Sessions are based around core skills and suitable for all abilities.

Riders need to be able to pedal their bikes to take part int he sessions.

British Cycling Coaches run the training at each session. The aim is to simply get you riding your bike better!

Facilities

– Large open plan car park are for training – vehicle parking cordoned off to make training area safe.
– Heated (when needed) Ticket office with Male, Female and Disabled toilets. (Baby changing also available)
– Ticket office is fully glazed so you can watch riders whilst sheltering from the elements.
– Pedal Monkey Pop up Cafe – Serving Coffee, Tea, soft drinks and snacks

DCV Youth Coaching 2017

DCV Youth Coaching is back!

Youth coaching for kids any age (so long as they don’t need stabilisers) up to 16.

We propose to run the sessions on the first and third Sundays of each month from March 5th to October 15th at the Sniperley Park and Ride Durham as we did last year.

Each session will be 1 hour between 3.30 and 4.30

We propose to run two groups in the sessions –

Go-Ride & Academy

Go-Ride is for any youth who wants to get better at riding and practice their skills.

Academy is aimed at the more advanced riders who want to race, with the initial focus on Criterium racing (drop handlebar race bikes) although kids don’t necessarily need a race bike to get started in the sessions. Dependant on volunteers we will be looking at supporting the Academy riders in North East Races this season

At present we have one British Cycling Level 2 coach committed which means we can have a total of 20 participants so we need volunteers to assist in the coaching and ideally to become qualified themselves to increase capacity.

With limited availability we will again set up an online ticket facility where tickets can be purchased up to midnight the night before the sessions. Places are first come first served.

Responding to comments last year we will now have any spare places available on the day to pay on arrival. However with places limited we urge pre-booking to avoid disappointment. (pre booked tickets will be discounted compared to on the day entry)

Dates and booking will be put live by 26th Feb following the feedback period.

We would also like to start fund raising to purchase loan race bikes so that kids can try them before committing to purchase.

DCV 2017 AGM Notes

Monday 13th Feb saw the 2nd DCV Annual General Meeting

Full Minutes to follow but heres a quick note of what happened.

Officials Elected

  • Chairman: George Kinghorn
  • Treasurer: Steve Down
  • Secretary: Angela Phillips
  • Welfare Officer: Gordon Kirkup

Finances – in good health – Membership fees held at 2016 levels

Committee structure – no formal committee but individuals taking responsibility for areas within the club (see below) and the first social meeting of each month to be used as a forum for discussion, planning and decision. If things felt to be needed to be voted on by whole club then an online vote will be published.

Club Runs

Saturday and Sunday Club runs to stat from Kings Lodge from Saturday 18th Feb. Hotel opens early and you can get coffees, breakfasts as required. They have bike racks and are happy for us to park there so long as we spend a bit of money in there (which we do as all social meetings are also held there)

No Drop Saturday runs – all agreed this is the central focus of the club as it encourages newcomers so has to be ran regularly. Agreed to run every Saturday at 10am as we have been. Default position is a leaderless run destination decided on day if no leader/planner can be found. If leader comes forward they need to decide route by the preceding Tuesday to allow publication by the Wednesday. Club members to be encouraged to take turns leading. We will build a library of common runs online as this allows newcomers to know what the route is like in advance.

Graham Thompson & Neil Morton taking on management of these. They will be working with you all to get Leaders for rides and then feeding in details to the Facebook group and Website once agreed, not necessarily being the ride leaders themselves.

Track and Trail Tuesdays – Mostly off road ride designed to be safer over winter but proved popular during last spring / summer so ran all year now. Still running from Stone Bridge pub but with lower numbers, look at ways of rekindling. Possible other routes in spring/summer. (see below for launch of trial Sunday version)

Thursday Training Rides – To be restarted in Spring when lighter nights here. A run designed for a faster paced training ride where people not fast enough will be dropped but encouraged to get fitter to stay with group.

Graham Thompson to carry on where he left off last year when riders feel its safe to do so

Sundays – NEW

Faster & Further Sundays – NEW RUN to cater for the faster amongst us. To be ran from Kings Lodge at a regular agreed time. Needs to be trialled and refined.

To be managed by the faster rider group.

Track and Trails Sundays – NEW RUN to attract those who want a gentle off road ride to be routed along railway lines. To encourage plodders, families and entry level riders.

Initially run fortnightly by Jamie Jackson

Membership management and Benefits

We aim to get better at this with more renewal notifications and partnerships with shops / suppliers.

Angela Phillips will be taking on this role

Social Events – Another cornerstone of the club, social meetings will now be on Mondays at 7pm to 9pm each week from 20th February. This is to avoid clashes with racing events later in the season. These meetings now feature a fun quiz and the first one of each month will also be a planning and deciding meeting for any plans.

Adhoc events to also be added in future.

Youth Coaching

This was established and grew fantastically last year. We will restart in March with the aim to run coaching 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. We need more support form current members and parents of kids. Ultimate aim to build a youth racing team.

Club Competitions –  We have two awards ate present and we want to grow to more to recognise achievements.

Presentation Event – Annual prize giving. Need to decide on awards and organise event.

Simon Kepczyk to work with John Hitch on this

Racing – Senior Team

Interest was expressed in setting up a senior racing team to take part in a number of cycling disciplines.

Neil Morton has experience and contacts for this so will work with Graham Thompson on it

As ever DCV is a club for the members so if there is anything else anyone wants to do please contact the officials or come along to the social meetings to discuss.
