3 Counties 100 Cyclosportive
June 5, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
The 3 Counties 100 Sportive has been designed to cover some of the best cycle routes (mostly single lane country roads) over 3 counties, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Rutland. Starting from the courtyard at Holdenby House, Elizabethan England’s greatest mansion and over the centuries a Royal Palace and prison, riders can load up with plenty of carbs from the mobile cafe and purchase essential items before starting their 100 mile, 110km or 21 mile rides
The first 15 km, from Holdenby to Naseby, are covered by riders from all 3 routes. Here the 21km riders return to base along the beautiful country roads and villages. The 100 mile and 100km riders continue around Eyebrook reservoir and under the Welland Viaduct the second feed stop at Harringworth. Here riders can choose to complete 100 miles by turning left up to Rutland Water, or return to Holdenby on the 110km route
Starting and finishing at Holdenby House, Northamptonshire, the three routes are mainly on quiet country lanes and have have their own unique and interesting features.
110 Km (68 miles) – £24
The 110 km route goes past the Naseby civil war battlefield and monument, around Market Harborough and over the top of Eyebrook Reservoir, where the Lancaster bombers of 617 Squadron practised their low flying in preparation for the famous dambuster raid in 1943. Cyclists then pass the Welland viaduct where they can stop at the feed station and enjoy the view of 82 arches of Britain’s longest valley viaduct. Then its down the beautiful Northamptonshire country lanes back to Holdenby House.
100 mile – £27
Cyclists have the option of adding Rutland water to their 3 Counties 100 trip. The 100 mile route follows the 100km route up to the Welland Viaduct where it turns left and heads under the viaduct and up to Rutland Water, passing the beautiful windmill at Morcott. The route from Morcott around Rultand Water is on mainly faster on some busier roads as cyclists enjoy the views over Rutland Water they will be aware this is the half way stage. Cyclists turn left at Oakham and return to single lane country roads to Seaton and head back to the Viaduct and follow the 100km route back to Holdenby House.
21 mile – £15
The 21 mile route remain in Northamptonshire, mainly on quiet country lanes. The 21 mile route takes cyclists up to the Naseby monument, and down through Cottesbrooke and back to Holdenby House.
Whilst riders are encouraged to download the GPS maps below, many riders may not have the technology to do so. We have invested in comprehensively signed routes, including some signs off the main route telling you if you have taken the wrong turn! We have RAYNET providing radio communications around the entire course, and NEG motorcycle riders (all first aid trained) supporting the cyclists ensuring every rider is accounted for. We are also well supported by Red Cross Ambulance service
