Buttertubs Sportive = Velo 29
May 14, 2016 @ 7:00 am - 5:00 pm
A popular new Sportive in 2015
We added the Buttertubs Sportive last year and what a success it was! Starting from the well-known Velo29 venue of Croft and heading out onto what will be new roads for many of you Velo29 Sportive riders. As usual there are 3 distances in the event, short medium and long and as always we’ve included some great roads in amazing scenery away from any busy traffic.
The routes will head out in the direction of Richmond, mostly flat Country lanes, nothing too tough in the early miles. We then will climb away out in the direction of the Buttertubs on some of our own little ridden but favourite roads of the ride up through Swaledale. As a young cyclist I recall an old tourist rider telling me there is only one thing nicer than a ride up Swaledale, that’s a ride down Swaledale! A comment that stuck with me for many years.
The medium route will split here and take the killer “Cote de Grinton Moor” whilst the long will continue to drag forever upwards to the base of the Buttertubs.
The Buttertubs climb starts where the road turns left and straight away it’s steep! It’s a long climb but the descent is an awesome one!
From there we are mostly downhill through the beautiful scenery taking in Aysgarth, Leyburn, Masham and then on to Bedale to rejoin the medium route and home towards Croft.
Both medium and long are challenging rides, the short is a great introduction to sportive riding, on mostly flat and quiet roads it’s great for first timers or to bring along the family for those riding the longer routes
Three Routes:-
Short – 29.7 miles – £17.50
Medium – 68 miles – £25
Long – 93.5 miles – £25
