Cycling Ireland was saddened to hear of the passing of Alan Mark, an honorary member of Ballymena Road Club who was laid to rest earlier today, 3rd April 2022.

Alan played a significant role in driving Ballymena Road Club for decades and took on many roles within the club including being President. Along with his passion for promoting cycling,  Alan was also very successful as a competitor winning provincial championship medals as well as setting the Derry – Belfast tandem record with club mate, Sammy Connor.

Alan was a key figure in the talks between Cycling Ulster, Cycling Ireland and the NICF which ultimately resulted in the amalgamation of the Northern Ireland Cycling Federation (NICF) and Cycling Ulster, affiliating to the UCI through Cycling Ireland. During this time, Alan was Chairperson of the NICF and had also served as President for many years.

Cycling Ireland would like to pass on their condolences to Alan’s family and all at Ballymena Road Club. RIP Alan Mark.
