Cycling Ireland Welcome €3.4 million Investment In Active Cities Campaign

Cycling Ireland are encouraged by the launch of the Active Cities campaign that will see €3.4 million invested in creating a more active future.

A new national campaign has been launched to get as many people exercising and participating in physical activity as possible in our biggest urban cities.

The Sport Ireland ‘Active Cities’ project calls on everyone across the Republic of Ireland’s five biggest urban areas of Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, and Waterford to come together to create more opportunities for participation in sport and physical activity through collaboration, partnership, and planning.

The project’s aim is to provide increased opportunities for city residents to be active in their communities and create change for those who are economically, socially or educationally disadvantaged or those who have a disability.

Cycling Ireland welcome the campaign, and with cycling being an excellent physical activity that promotes a healthier lifestyle, we hope that cycling can become a key pillar to the campaign’s goal of creating a more active future for all.

Cycling Ireland Chief Exectutive Officer Matt McKerrow said:

“Cycling Ireland would like to welcome the launch of Sport Ireland’s ‘Active Cities’ campaign and the significant investment of €3.4million in an initiative that can bring a great sense of togetherness within urban communities through physical activity and sport.”

“The project will help physical activities such as cycling become more accessible to people in urban areas and we will encourage as many people as possible to get involved in their local Active City events as part of the initiative.”
