9 athletes to compete at UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships
Ireland will be represented by a strong team of riders at the UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships from 11-14 August 2022 in Baie-Comeau, Canada.
Speaking about the goals of team for the Championships, Head Coach, Neill Delehaye commented;
“The primary objective for the team in Canada will be to deliver performance consistency, across both time trial & road road in each competition, ensuring we secure adequate nations ranking points to keep Ireland on track with our Paris 2024 qualification ambitions. Most of the team are experienced campaigners and they have been working very hard since the last races in May to be at their best for August. Preparation has gone well and I know everyone travelling harbours ambition to push for podiums."
There will be a new female tandem pairing which sees Josephine Healion partnering with Linda Kelly. Neill Delahaye added;
"Thanks to the support of the Paracycling Commission, we have been able to provide a new female tandem pairing the opportunity to race. For Josephine and Linda, the main goal is to gain valuable experience through exposure to this level of competition in a fully supported environment. They demonstrated in the World Cups and European Championships this Spring that they were competitive within their class with other race partners and we believe this was the right time to pair them together and provides a fantastic opportunity for them to show what they can do.”
The same squad will also compete in round 3 of the Paracycling World Cup from 4-7 August.
