Link to Cycling Ireland appearance before the Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media


Cycling Ireland appeared before the Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media on July 13th to provide an update on its reform progress and related matters.


The current board and executive have invested significant time, energy and resources to ensure 14 of the 17 Sport Ireland KOSI Audit actions have now been implemented. The remaining three are on target to be completed by September 2022.


Cycling Ireland is pleased this work has been recognised, and welcome the endorsements made by members of the Committee including Ciaran Cannon TD and Alan Dillon TD.


Ciaran Cannon TD concluded the hearing commenting;

“This has been a very important element of the process of restoring trust in Cycling Ireland and in its governance structures. I think we can go forward from today with a greater degree of confidence in how exactly those governance issues are being addressed and will be addressed in the future.”


Chair of the Joint Committee on Sport, Alan Dillon TD posted on social media after the hearing;

“(I) want to commend the work of the new board and executives within Cycling Ireland to bring about change within its own ranks. A shining example for other NGB’s.”


Cycling Ireland’s consultation and review process is ongoing, with members of the board and executive holding meetings with commissions this week. Consultation with representatives from the four provinces are also ongoing and a survey of clubs will be issued in due course. Cycling Ireland is committed to working with the membership and would like to thank members for their engagement at the consultation day on May 21st and for the high level of participation in the member survey issued on July 7th.

“The board and executive of Cycling Ireland look forward to working closely with Sport Ireland and our partners in Government to deliver upon our Strategic Plan and shared objectives within the National Sport Policy.


 Cycling Ireland Vice President Tom Daly commented;

“Whilst we’ve made some good progress on governance reforms to date, we acknowledge there is still a body of work ahead to ensure we continue to operate as a well governed and modern NGB for the benefit of our members, clubs and volunteers”.
