Cyclo-cross Strategic Development Summary
Cycling Ireland Off-Road Commission and Cycling Ireland are delighted to publish a strategic summary for the development of Cyclo-cross in Ireland.
With Cyclo-cross becoming one of the fastest-growing disciplines, this document aims to provide an outline and direction to develop the discipline to its full potential in Ireland.
It aims to broaden the development of the discipline at a participation level right through to High Performance level and competing at major International events.
Some of the key focus areas for the next 2-5 years are outlined in the summary with a more detailed strategy set to be developed in due course following consultation with riders, coaches, and staff that aligns to the overall Cycling Ireland strategy.
The publication of the strategy document comes as the 2023/24 Cyclo-cross season kicks off this weekend with the opening round of the Cyclo-cross National Series. VC Glendale host round one at Falls Park, Belfast, as riders and supporters look forward to another exciting winter of racing.
Cyclo-cross Coordinator, Paul Birchall said:
"I'm delighted to see this summary document published. This aims to provide a source of clear information for all those involved in Cyclo-cross in Ireland and I look forward to consulting with riders, coaches and staff on an ongoing basis to best define and develop a long term strategy. The National Series is the springboard for riders to develop through the ranks and make themselves visible to selectors. With a strong 2023-24 schedule I would encourage all riders to take part in each of the six rounds."
Full information on the strategy, outline, objectives and goals can be found in the document here.
