Sundrive Velodrome Host Irish Ukrainian Community Track Sessions

Sundrive Velodrome are currently hosting a series of track sessions with members of the Irish Ukrainian Community.

The sessions, supported by the Dublin City Council Sports and Wellbeing Partnership as well as the Ukrainian Crisis Committee, were organised by the Sundrive Events Group.

An orientation session was held on Thursday, March 23rd, aimed towards children and teenagers interested in giving track cycling a go before a follow-up session took place last Thursday, March 30th.

The orientation involved a short introduction to track cycling, safety and track bikes in the Pavilion before the coaches took the group to the velodrome where they had the opportunity to try out track bikes on the grass.

The coaches were very impressed by the confidence and ability of the participants and were encouraged by the attendance of nine participants in the follow-up session.

The participants continued to grow in confidence and ability as coaches moved from the grass to the track in the follow-up session as their skills continue to grow.

The Sundrive Management Team said:

"Working with the Ukrainian Youths is an absolute joy for all involved. We are very encouraged by their confidence and ability and hope to see them progress to join in other activities at the Velodrome as the season advances."

Several sessions are planned in the coming weeks, members of the Irish Ukrainian Community are encouraged to attend and can contact sundrive@trackcycling.ie for more information.
