Cycling Ireland Women in Sport Mondello24 Team
Cycling Ireland, through the Women in Sport initiative, are looking to enter a women’s team to the third edition of Mondello24 taking place on Saturday 24th – Sunday 25th June 2023.
Mondello24 is an exciting 24-hour endurance cycling challenge that takes place in the unique setting of the famed international race circuit in Naas, Co Kildare.
In 2022 88 teams took part and whilst the winning team covered almost 900km (!) Mondello24 claims to be “an event for all level of cyclists”, male or female, solo or team. We want to test that theory by entering a women's team who are looking for a challenge!
The Women’s Commission of Cycling Ireland who entered a team in 2022 will also be entering a race team for 2023 so if you’re interested in being part of a more competitive team, details on this team will be advertised in due course.
Who is this challenge suitable for?
Any female, with a bike*, over the age of 18 who is looking to be part of a team to complete a 24hour cycle challenge!
*Time trial or e-bikes are not permitted. The use of TT/Aero bars and full TT/disc wheels are also not permitted.
Whaaat? Does that mean I have to cycle for 24 hours?
No! The event is 24 hours and we intend on choosing a team of 8 riders. Teams get to share the distance they cover as a relay around the track. Each team will have one rider on the track at any given time. Depending on the team and strategy chosen, will depend on how long each rider cycles – some teams may have a rider cycle for an hour at a time and there is no minimum or maximum time each rider must complete.
Ok, I’m intrigued, what next?
Complete the following application form by Monday 27th March at 9am and we will be in touch by Friday 31st March: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TLLYSHX
I’m up for a challenge but I’m still not sure!
We understand! You won’t be alone on this journey. Cycling Ireland and Mondello24 will ensure you are well prepped. We will help with training, nutrition advice, training sessions on the track, hear from previous participants etc
Why should I sign up?
It’s going to be fun, we promise! We want to show you don’t have to be a “pro” to sign up and complete a challenge such as Mondello24. Cycling Ireland and Mondello24 will “follow” the teams journey, document it via photos and videos in the hope of inspiring others to take on challenges they may not have otherwise taken on.
Ok, I’m going to think about it, where can I find out more info?
