Cycling Ireland Women’s Commission 2023 Calendar Strategy And Training Day

Calendar: Women only road and track races

Cycling Ireland’s Women’s Commission have been working with clubs and event organisers to create a strategic calendar for women’s road racing in 2023 to encourage participation and create a clearer pathway for riders with the focus also on catering for high performance races.

The commission have focused on the positioning of races throughout the season and have confirmed the following actions:

  •   Five intermediate league races (W2/W3) will be condensed into a shorter period. This will begin alongside the Orwell women's midweek beginner league due to the natural cross-over here. The Intermediate Leage will end on 25th June where there will be opportunity for women to move to open road racing for the remainder of the season.
  •  Longer races will be placed towards the end of the season to allow women to train for Rás na mBan and international events.
  • We have pushed for at least one women's only race per weekend.
  • Intermediate league will be 50-60km
  • Open road racing will be aimed at approximately 80km
  • National Series races will be aimed at 100km plus

If clubs are interested in hosting a women’s only race which has not been registered with Cycling Ireland yet, please email treasurer.women@cyclingireland.ie
