Irish National Team Feature In New Tour de l’Avenir Documentary

A new behind the scenes Tour de l’Avenir documentary will feature riders from the Irish National Team.

‘Race For The Future’ is a two-part GCN+ documentary that offers fans ‘fly on the wall’ insight into the 2022 edition of the race including interviews with the best riders.

Irish rider Archie Ryan is set to feature in the documentary that will include footage of the young Team Jumbo Visma rider as well as other riders racing for Ireland.

Ryan put in some stellar displays in the prestigious race, particularly in mountain stages, and finished fourth place in the general classification.

A tough race dubbed the youth equivalent of the Tour de France, two Irish riders were struck by illness at the race.

Tour de l’Avenir team manager Martyn Irvine said:

“It's great to see Archie Ryan and the other riders in the national team featured in the documentary. We knew he (Ryan) would be the man in form and he had the skills and confidence and ability to back it up. From day one that was the plan, and he executed the plan. Obviously he would like to have been one or two steps higher here and there, but I think he’s satisfied with his ride. He’s proven he’s one of the best climber amongst his peers."
"We had a bit of bad luck. There was sickness going through the race. We had some very long climbs that weren’t suited to our riders, and that caught us out at times. It was an emotional rollercoaster. But we were all pretty happy with the week’s work. And that’s it. It was great to work with the lads, every one of them was a pleasure to work with on my part.”

The two-part documentary will air on January 17th and 24th on GCN+
